The Birth of a Disc Golf Course
By Mike Wulbecker

The idea for a disc golf course at Iowa Western actually came simultaneously from 2 sources.  Mike Wulbecker first heard of disc golf from Jeff Bordan, a ranked amateur at the time from Colorado, in January 2005.

Interesting fact, Jeff turned pro at the First Treasure Cove Open Tournament   --  the very course he helped develop.

At the same time, Nolan Harmon, a student attending Iowa Western, was petitioning the student senate for a disc golf course.  Neither knew what the other was planning.  When the mutual plans were discovered, the two joined forces, and presented the idea to the college cabinet.  Approval was granted and Treasure Cove was given the green light to install a course before the first day of classes in the fall of 2005. That would be quite a daunting task.
